Alert Packaging has had the objective of promoting the benefits of recycling over the past number of years. Many programs have been successfully implemented i.e. the EPA sponsored CGPP - Cleaner Greener Production Programme of 2003, in which Alert qualified for EPA grants due to their innovative ideas on how to change waste to product and reduce fugitive emissions. The principal focus has been on:
- Segregation of paper/board/wood and metals for recycling
- Segregation of all waste plastics for recycling
- Solvent recovery and reuse
- Reduction of fugitive emissions
- Recyclable laminate combinations
- Working towards having no landfill waste
Alert Packaging is a member of Repak and is working closely with customers and suppliers to achieve their goals in waste reduction.
Hygiene & Environment
One of Alert Packaging's main achievements lies in environmentally friendly production manufacturing. A new Biological Treatment Plant (Bio Trickling Filter and Bio Scrubber) has been installed and fully operational since October 2004. We have a monitoring system run by in-house experts that records and controls all emissions in 1 minute intervals. This data is available to us in real time and forms matrices for continuous monitoring and further analysis. The system is designed to abate VOC (volatile Organic Compounds) emissions, which is a greener way of treating exhaust gases from the plant to in an aim to minimise the Company's carbon emissions and to be more environmentally friendly. This is a major contribution to Alert Packaging's progress toward a smaller carbon footprint.
