Barrier Films

Alert produces an extensive range of high barrier films for flexible packaging products. These films serve to protect and preserve your product independently and/or in combination with Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) and Controlled Atmosphere Packaging (CAP) i.e. to increase a products shelf life.

CAP is very similar to MAP. However, in MAP, the concentrations of the gases may change after sealing due to use of oxygen and the expelling of carbon dioxide by microbes and from the slightly permeable nature of the package. This does not happen in CAP. The gas concentrations do not change during storage. With CAP, since we do not want the gas concentrations to change, we must use a gas-impermeable package such as aluminium foil and Metallised polyester. Examples of CAP applications are baby food and coffee packaging in bag or finished reel format. Decoration is available using Gravure or Flexographic printing.
